This piece is continually controversial. Some experts believe that Leonardo was the sole executor of the painting in question, while other s believe that Leonardo had nothing to do with the painting at all. It's difficult to attribute this painting because at certain points in history, sections of this painting have been painted over. However, a study of a chin (that will be posted here later) that is definitely a Leonardo suggests that he may have been involved in at least the initial stages of production. IN Christ's hand, barely visible, is a tiny finch that is feeding upon thistles. The thistle is significant because Christian's often associate this plant with the crucifixion. So, in a sense, christ is holding his own fate in his hands.
